For the first time this season, Toyota has earned its position as the NASCAR Nextel Cup pole, thanks to Dave Blaney, who drove his No. 22 Caterpillar Toyota Camry and set the fastest time in the recent practice test that took place at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon.
Blaney drove his Toyota "Car of Tomorrow" Camry equipped with Toyota Sway Bar Link to attain a maximum speed of 129,437 mph, and scored on 29.426 to leave behind other drivers. Blaney is a milestone achievement for Toyota Racing as this is the first time a Toyota car got a polo final. Dave Blaney will his Toyota Camry in the number 1 starting position in the next Lenox Industrial Tools 300 race this coming July.
Check what Dave Blaney said after the qualifying race.
"It feels good to get the first pole for Toyota and I hope this is the first step in many days success of the poles and wins. We've been good all day and getting a lot of speed of the car. All Toyota have been very good lately and Brian Vickers has had some good races lately too. The Toyota side is definitely been hard being out of the top-35 because it is hard to concentrate on racing when you have to concentrate in getting them. This is a big boost for the whole team and any day you can build confidence in his team and the driver becomes a good day. "
Blaney asked the press if they felt that it would take the stick and said:
"I everybody watched early and I saw some of their speeds were dropping some of the practice. I was not sure he could run and I knew that really changes nothing of the practice. But in my situation have to focus on entering the race rather than go for pole. I can not make a mistake and the risk of not entering the race. I was a little conservative on my first lap, but when I heard it was fast enough to enter the program – this second round gave me a little more and I put into the top of the table. Is be in a difficult position because you have to be careful enough to get it, but aggressive enough to enter the race. But yes – I thought we could get pole. "
NASCAR fans probably will watch the next race in Loudon Dave Blaney and see if your computer can give Toyota its first NASCAR victory.
