You will find that the resulting tube can be crushed in your purse very easily, but at the other end, hem when unpacked, will be relatively safe, and ready to use.
Another is the increasingly popular tip is to use a compressor. If you have not seen one of these, which are basically a combination of small plastic bags and vacuum cleaner. You put the clothes in the plastic bag and zip it up. A small air pump connected to a valve on the side of the bag, and air is extracted. This dramatically reduces the overall volume of clothes, which means they occupy much less space where appropriate. It also means that clothing is practically uncreased, and when the bag is opened at the other end, the clothes will be in the same condition they were when they are put.
The only thing to keep in mind when using these compressors of course is that at the other end of your holiday, you must do same if it is to get all your stuff in a compact box. This may require an electrical outlet, and this in turn may require that you have a suitable adapter.
